Leonie Steinrötter, Trainee Risk & Market Operations

“I chose the Statkraft International Trainee Programme because I wanted to work with a young, dynamic team in a great environment.”

Why did you choose the Statkraft International Trainee Programme?

As a child, I always dreamed of working with animals — becoming a vet or a zookeeper, like many other kids who loved animals and wanted to pet them whenever possible. Over time, I realized that being a zookeeper wasn't exactly what I wanted. My true passion lies in the environment, saving the oceans, and protecting animals.

This led me to working for Statkraft, where I can contribute to renewable energy and make a significant impact to the world around us. I chose Statkraft’s International Trainee Programme because I wanted to work with a young, dynamic team in a great environment, helping me develop both personally and professionally.

Tell us about your trainee experience so far!

Describing a typical day as a trainee is challenging since my experience varies across different locations and teams. Each rotation is different and with that come different challenges and projects. That is what makes it so enriching and fun.

I’ve had the opportunity to work in both Düsseldorf, Germany, and now in Spain, which is a fantastic place, especially during winter. Every day is unique, with meetings, presentations, and collaborative projects across departments and countries keeping me engaged and motivated.

What would you say to a friend who was interested in the programme?

The most surprising thing I’ve learned about working in renewable energy is how far we've come and how crucial it has become in the last five years. This is the industry of the future.

The best thing about being a trainee at Statkraft is the opportunity to work abroad, experience different work environments, and develop personally and professionally. The future of green energy is promising, and it’s getting bigger and bigger each year. I’d recommend anyone interested in the energy sector to choose renewable energy.
